Lady Tigers place 2nd in tourney

The Russellville Lady Tiger softball team traveled to Florence this past weekend to play in the FCA tournament where they placed second.

Their first win was on Friday night against Shoals Christian where they pulled out a 3-2 win.

Casey Brandenburg pitched 5 innings, struck out 8, and only allowed 5 hits with 2 runs.

Leading the Lady Tigers offensively was Sydney Burcham, Megan Brockway, and Madelyn Price, who all singled and were later driven in by Kalli Beth Daniel and Rachel Hunter.

The second game was Saturday morning at 10:30 against the Brooks Lady Lions.

Russellville came out with a 3-1 victory. Rachel Hunter led the Lady Tigers by pitching 5 innings, striking out 6, and only allowing 1 hit.

Sydney Burcham, Lily Holt, Ally Willis, and Amber Howard had singles while Brooke Borden and Rachel Hunter had 2 hits apiece, driving in runs.

The Russellville Lady Tigers faced Deshler for the second game on Saturday giving them their fifth win of the season.

Jakari Suggs helped the Tigers win by pitching 5 innings, picking up 5 strikeouts, and only allowing 2 runs.

Sydney Burcham had 2 hits and an RBI, along with Amber Howard who also had 2 hits in route to the Tigers’ 5-2 victory over Deshler.

The Lady Golden Tigers advanced to the championship game where they lost to the Central Wildcats 4-1.

Although the Tigers outhit the Wildcats, they couldn’t drive in the runs.

Pitchers Rachel Hunter and Stacy Godsey had 10 strikeouts combined.

The Lady Tiger’s offense was led by Sydney Burcham and Brooke Borden, both having 2 hits.

Kalli Beth Daniel, Rachel Hunter, Jakari Suggs, and Ally Willis all singled but the Tigers’ only run was driven in by Kayla Cochran’s sacrifice fly.

The Russellville Lady Tigers (5-4) travel to Hatton to play in the Hatton Invitational this weekend.

 

Russellville 11, Deshler 2

The Russellville Lady Tigers Softball team traveled to Deshler on Feb. 25 and came away with an 11-2 victory.

The first inning went scoreless, but the Lady Tigers picked up 3 runs in the top of the second and the Deshler Tigers answered with one run in the bottom of the second inning.

Russellville held Deshler to their 1 run in the third and scored two runs with hits from Amber Howard, Ally Willis, and Lexi Lamon to put them up 5-1.

Kalli Beth Daniel led off the inning with a hit to set up Lily Holt’s 2-run homer over center field in the fourth.

Jakari Suggs hit a double and ended up scoring on an error by the Deshler Tigers.

Casey Brandenburg added three hits and Sydney Burcham contributed two.

Rachel Hunter pitched all seven innings with 10 strikeouts and only allowed two hits by the Deshler Tigers in the game where the Russellville Lady Tigers has 20 total hits.
