FCSO website offers new feature

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office website has been active for more than a year, but Sheriff Shannon Oliver said they are constantly trying to make the website more effective and useful for the county’s citizens.

Just recently, Oliver said they added a jail roster feature that will allow the public to view photos and booking details for individuals in the detention center as well as those released within the last 48 hours.

“We first launched the website as a way to keep the community informed on many different matters,” Oliver said.

“It was also a way to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement and to keep us all connected and on the same page.

“Adding a jail roster to the website is just another feature that we think will be informative and useful as well as convenient.”

Oliver said they have received a lot of positive feedback on the website since its launch in September 2012.

With everything from recent arrests, to the county’s most wanted, to kids’ activities, to an updated sex offender registry, Oliver said they have tried to think of just about everything when it comes to pertinent information.

“Just as an example, we get so many questions at the detention center about what kinds of things inmates can have with them, what kind of mail they can receive, what the process is to bond someone out – the questions are numerous,” Oliver said.

“There is tab on the website that is a one-stop solution to almost any question that friends or family members of our inmates need to know.

“We think this will save a lot of confusion and make the process easier for everyone involved. Most of our tabs are designed to do just that.”

One of the biggest things Oliver said residents have seemed to enjoy is the “Alerts” tab that allows people to sign up for e-mail or text message alerts when something is happening in Franklin County.

He said this tool continues to be a useful way to get information out to a large number of people at one time and has even assisted in some arrests.

“If someone can’t check the website every day, they can stay in the loop through our alert system,” Oliver said.

“We encourage everyone to sign up for this important feature.

“We also have our “Most Wanted” individuals in Franklin County listed so residents can keep on the lookout for these individuals,” Oliver added.

“And we have links to make submitting community tips easier to further aid crime and drug prevention throughout the county.

“We just want this to be the most useful resource possible and we plan to continually make improvements and updates that we think will benefit the area’s citizens.”
