Getting to know your neighbor

Editor’s Note: Getting to Know  Your Neighbor is a regular feature spotlighting residents in Franklin County and how they look at certain things.

Name: Scottie Belue

Hometown: Red Bay

Place of employment: City of Red Bay – Police Department

Q: What is the best thing about your job?
A: Protecting, promoting and preserving the quality of life for my community.

Q: If you weren’t in your current profession, what would be your ideal job and why?
A: The United States Coast Guard. To me their motto, “So Others May Live,” is the greatest service to mankind.

Q: If you could change places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
A: My wife Melanie, so I could give her a day off from her hard work and dedication.

Q: If you could sit down to dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
A: Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ so I could thank him for all the blessings, protection and mercy he has given me.

Q: What’s the best present you’ve ever received?
A: My graduation ring after completing Jacksonville State University Police Academy.

Q: What is your favorite childhood memory?
A: There are many, but one in particular was when I received my brand new Honda 50 dirt bike when I was bout 10 years old.

Q: What do you think of as your greatest accomplishment in life?
A: My greatest accomplishments are raising my two sons, Matthew and Austin, and my daughter, Courtney.

Q: If you only had one meal left, what would it be?
A: Pinto beans, corn bread, greens, pork chops, and a big Mason jar of sweet tea. And don’t forget the pecan pie!

Q: If you won a million dollars, what would be your first purchase?
A: Plenty of land to move all my family close together.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
A: I would like to go to Birmingham Airport and just pick out a place on the large screen and just go from place to place – no schedule, no hurry, just travel all over for about a month.

Q: If you were the President of the United States, what would be the first law that you would enact?
A: It would have to be a combo. I believe I would enact the Ten Commandments, make sure to stick with our United States Constitution, and throw the rest in the garbage! And everybody would pay a flat tax.

Q: If you were in local government, what things would you change in the area?
A: Put the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer back in our schools.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about Franklin County?
A: The outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, hunting, boating, hiking, four-wheeler riding and many others.

Q: What is something interesting about you that most people don’t know?
A: I will always be a young, big ol’ teddy bear at heart!
