Tharptown girls defeat Belgreen

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Kamri Sears (25) of Tharptown makes a jump-shot while defended by Bridget Thompson (10) of Belgreen.

The Tharptown Lady Wildcats downed the Belgreen Lady Bulldogs 51-45 Friday night.

The score was close for most of the game, but Tharptown maintained the lead throughout the contest, aside from one time the match was tied.

“We missed seven free throws in the fourth quarter, they only missed three,” Belgreen head coach Ritchie Hester said, “That’s the tale of the game. The girls played as a team, though.”

Tharptown kept a narrow lead for most of the game, led by Kamri Sears, Erika Sparks and Breaden Sellers, who scored 15, 11 and 9 points respectively.

Both teams had trouble getting to the basket at times, and turnovers were a factor throughout the game.

“We have to hold on to the ball better,” Tharptown head coach Chad Green said.

Erica Smith had 23 points and four threes for Belgreen. Lauren Oliver and Laken Bragwell both had 10, and Allyson Bragwell totaled 2.
