Schools open late Friday
The Russellville city and Franklin County schools systems will open at 10:30 a.m. Friday due to expected winter weather that will be moving into the area late Thursday and into Friday morning.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency is closely monitoring the current weather system which is producing freezing rain and sleet in parts of Alabama. It is very important that residents be aware of changing conditions and that they avoid unnecessary travel, the agency said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory since pockets of freezing rain, sleet and snow continue across the state.
“The Alabama Emergency Management Agency encourages all Alabamians to be aware of weather conditions. Listen to the latest weather warnings and bulletins on NOAA weather radio or your local radio and television station,” said Director Art Faulkner. “Road conditions can change rapidly and become dangerous. If you must be on the road, drive carefully.”
