Wildcats look to stop slide

THARPTOWN — Tharptown was forced to reschedule its Week 5 non-region game earlier this year when original opponent Saint Bernard’s decided not to play due to a lack of interest in the football program.

The Wildcats found Valley Head as a replacement and when the two teams meet Friday night, the teams will be in similar situations.

Both squads are 1-3 overall with the only win coming two weeks ago. Both squads had tough losses last week and are looking for a boost when they resume region play next week.

Tharptown’s offense exploded for 44 points against Phillips two weeks ago but managed only 20 in a loss to Shoals Christian last week.

Valley Head followed up its win with a 65-0 loss to Cedar Bluff.

The Tigers use a balanced attack on offense and have a capable quarterback and receiver tandem that can move the chains.

Tharptown has found success with a three-quarterback rotation, with Kelby Hallmark emerging as the best passing threat.

Valley Head and Tharptown have struggled with consistency on offense and both teams have scored 76 points throughout the season.

The difference in Friday’s game might be the defenses. The Tigers have surrendered 148 points this season while Tharptown has given up 167 points.

The game will be played at Tharptown beginning at 7 p.m.
