Wildcats to tumble with No. 6 Addison
THARPTOWN — Last week Tharptown struggled to shut down the offensive attack of Meek in a 50-6 loss to open the season.
Things won’t be any easier this week as the sixth-ranked Addison Bulldogs come to town to begin region play.
Addison was a Class 2A team the past two seasons, and although the Bulldogs posted a 9-11 record during that time Addison has been a tough team with many of the losses coming by less than 10 points.
This will be a tough early-season test for Tharptown.
The Wildcats need to perform well in this game to set the tone for the remainder of their region games. An upset here would be a big confidence booster when Hackleburg and R.A. Hubbard — the other two ranked teams in the region — come calling in weeks six and seven.
Before the Wildcats can worry about those games, they must focus on Addison. There is much work to be done.
The Wildcats’ offense failed to sustain many drives and had too many turnovers against Meek, but the biggest problem is on the other side of the ball.
Tharptown’s run defense was exposed last week as Meek rolled up 193 rushing yards by halftime.
