West Lauderdale suffers 1st loss

The West Lauderdale Lady Knights suffered their first loss of the season late Saturday night in the Greenville, Tenn., Girls Holiday Invitational.
The Lady Knights were beaten by White County, Tenn., 47-43 in a second round game of the 16-team tournament. The loss drops West Lauderdale to 16-1 on the season.
White County, 12-1, was led by Brittany King with 12 points.
West Lauderdale was paced by J.J. Huggins with 12 points and nine rebounds. Kristina Gardner also had 12 points. Center Shannon Lloyd scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds.
West led 11-7 after one quarter and 20-16 at the half. White County outscored the Lady Knights 16-12 in the third quarter to tie the game at 32-32. They then used a 15-point fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
West Lauderdale was to play Sevierville, Tenn., on Sunday night. Sevierville is the defending state 3A champions in Tennessee.
Meridian sixth at
Poplar Bluff Tourney
The Meridian High Wildcats finished sixth in the eight-team Poplar Bluff, Mo., Shootout on Saturday night in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Hickman, Mo., beat the Wildcats 61-49 in Saturday's fifth place game.
Meridian went 1-2 in the tournament beating Memphis Hillcrest 59-52 on Friday night. The Wildcats end the 2002 portion of their schedule with an 8-6 record.
Against Hickman, Meridian was tied 30-30 at the half. Hickman then used a 13-6 third quarter to grab a 43-36 lead. Hickman moves to the 6-3 with the win.
Cyrus McGowan led the Wildcats with nine points and E.J. Hampton had eight. Jason Windom was held to just five points. Lance Harris paced Hickman with 24 points.
Little Rock Parkville, Ark. beat Little Rock Mills 56-36 in the championship game. Parkville is 11-2 on the year while Mills is 11-1. Mills beat Meridian on Thursday night.
Jason Windom was named to the All-Tournament team.
Against Hillcrest on Friday, Meridian came back from a 28-24 halftime deficit by outscoring the Memphis team 22-12 in the third quarter. The Wildcats went on to post the 59-52 victory.
Windom had 19 points in the club's eighth win of the season. He had seven field goals including three, three-pointers. Cyrus McGowan had 11 points.
