Four area high school football teams are still in the running for state championships heading into semifinal action Friday night.
Of the four, two are from Newton County. The 13-0 Newton County Cougars and the 10-3 Union Yellowjackets are still in the mix.
Newton County travels to Collins, 13-0, in a rematch of last year's playoff game that Collins won 19-12 at Decatur.
Union hosts Puckett, 11-1, in a rematch of the Region 3-1A championship that Union won 18-13 from the Wolves just three weeks ago.
Also in the playoff hunt are the 12-1 Wayne County War Eagles. They too are in a rematch as they face Region 3-5A rival Oak Grove, 12-1. Wayne County beat the Warriors 28-7 in the regular season.
In Alabama, unbeaten Southern Choctaw, 12-0, will travel to Slocumb, an 18-13 winner over Washington County, in the Class 2A semifinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The Indians defeated Houston Academy 21-0 last week.
All Mississippi public school playoff games have 7 p.m. kickoffs.
