Football look ahead

Now headed down the stretch run of the season, after this week, teams will have three games remaining on their schedules.

Russellville has already earned a berth in the Class 5A playoffs. Red Bay still has work to do but could be a three or four seed in the Class 2A playoffs. Russellville (6-1) and Tharptown (1-6) are off this week. Phil Campbell, Red Bay and Vina all host games this week.

Phil Campbell (2-4) hosts Mars Hill (7-0) Thursday at 7 p.m. – Mars Hill may be one of the top ten teams in the state in Class 1A through Class 5A (see the Russellville game two weeks ago).

Red Bay (3-3) hosts Falkville (3-3) – Red Bay is coming off a big homecoming win over Tharptown. The Tigers are vying for a spot in the playoffs, facing Falkville this Friday. The Blue Devils beat the Tigers 28-6 last year. They are 3-3 on the year but 1-3 in region play with losses to Tanner, Hatton and Lexington.

Vina (0-5) hosts Cherokee (4-2) – Vina is coming off a tough loss to Phillips where the Red Devils got inside the ten yard line at least four times, but with no points earned.
