Hi folks,
Monday was a day that our country set aside, and we call that day Veterans Day. We should all be proud that we have the great honor to tell these folks thank you for the great way in which they served our country.
Many were just young boys and girls when they entered the service, and on return home, they had the opportunity to finish their education.
Many people who work in this county served our country. In Rockwood, employees manufactured shells for the military during World War II. In Sylacauga, workers provided for the military during a time in our history. My father had the opportunity to work at both places, and several readers of Homefolks U.S.A. worked in the Rockwood Plant during World War II.
We honor everyone who played a part in keeping our country free during troubled times in our great country.
I have in my collection one of the shells made in the Rockwood Plant. I have sold a lot of my collection, but I have a little problem parting with all the items, especially the artillery shell that came out of Rockwood.
Not many of our World War II veterans are still with us; most have passed on to a better place. When I see a person wearing a cap that says World War II, Korea or Vietnam, it makes me proud to know that we have people who were not afraid to fight for our county. I hope and pray that we all will remember them, and I hope we can pass information along to our children about the importance they played for our freedom.
So many towns have a Veterans Day Parade. In some of the larger cities the parades are huge, and thousands line the streets to show their support. I’m so thankful Russellville has a Veterans Day Parade. The parade continues to grow, and I know a lot of work goes into making that day a special one for us all. Thanks to everyone who works so hard to make this happen each year.
Sometimes it bothers me to know that so many young people fail to realize the importance of those brave young people – some of whom paid the ultimate price – who served our country. That’s why it is important to keep them alert to that part of our history.
