Semifinals: Red Bay 57, Lamar County 48
Clay Allison sank four three-pointers in the first half to help the Red Bay Tigers advance to the finals of the 2A, Area 14 boys tournament Tuesday night.
Red Bay led throughout the game and ended up with a 57-48 win over the Lamar County Bulldogs.
The Tigers will face the Sulligent Blue Devils in the finals. The two teams split on the year. The win guaranteed the Tigers a spot in the subregion next week.
Red Bay jumped out to a 14-10 first quarter lead and extended the lead to 29-24 at halftime. The Tigers led the Bulldogs 43-35 at the end of the third quarter and hung on for the win.
Allison led Red Bay with 20 points. Braden Ray and Gath Weatherford followed with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Colton Corum added eight points, Hunter Bays five points and Peyton Green three points.
Semifinals: Sulligent 47, Phil Campbell 39
The Phil Campbell Bobcats’ season came to an end Tuesday night with a 47-39 loss to the top-seeded Sulligent Blue Devils. The Bobcats slowed the pace of the game down to try to limit the Blue Devils’ explosive offense, and it worked for much of the game. However, the Bobcats’ inability to score in the second half doomed them, as their lead slowly slipped away.
Phil Campbell and Sulligent were tied at 13-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats took a 27-21 lead at halftime. Sulligent began a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 9-4 to cut the Bobcats’ lead to 31-30 at the end of the quarter. Sulligent raced past Phil Campbell in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 17-8 to get the win.
Daniel Smith and Peyton Thomas led Phil Campbell with 13 points and 12 points respectively. Brody Nix added six points, Joe Hardy five points and Nate Owens three points.
