Russellville City Pool announces swimming lessons
Parents looking for something for their children to do this summer might consider an activity that could be a lifesaver: swimming lessons at Russellville City Pool.
Three sessions for swimming lessons will be offered this summer: June 5-16, June 19-30 and July 10-21. Classes are open to children ages 5 and older and take place Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., lasting about 45 minutes per class. Class capacity is ten children.
Parks and Recreation assistant director Jeff Studdard said classes are taught by two or more city lifeguards, typically at least one boy and one girl.
“It’s important for all kids to know the safety of the water and be able to protect themselves if they were to fall off a boat or fall into a swimming pool just walking by,” Studdard pointed out. “Even in a bathtub a kid can drown.”
Children learn swimming basics like how to kick, basic arm strokes, floating, holding their breath under water, treading water and more.
Cost is $30 for one child and $40 for two children.
Children should wear their swimsuit and bring a towel and sunscreen.
