Sulligent blanks Tharptown

By Bart Moss

For the FCT

Tharptown got it first major road test against a quality team in class 2A at Sulligent Friday night.

The Wildcats were limited to only 120 total yards and four first downs in the contest.

The Wildcats gave up 15 points in the first quarter and 20 points in the second quarter as the Blue Devils cruised to the 35-0 win.

Sulligent is now 2-1 in the region and Tharptown is 1-1 in region play.

Tharptown leaves region play this week with a road trip to Decatur Heritage before a critical showdown with Phil Campbell that will go a long way to determining playoff chances for both teams.

Based on results to date, it appears that Red Bay is in strong contention for the top playoff spot in the region with Sulligent and Hatton fighting for the second and third spot.

That leaves Tharptown, Phil Campbell, Mars Hill, and Cherokee to fight for the fourth and final playoff berth in the region.
