Honey chosen Senior of the Month for July
Franklin County native Elsie M. Honey, 87, was chosen as the Russellville Senior Center’s Senior of the Month for July.
Honey was born and raised in Franklin County and has enjoyed living here over the years.
She grew up on a 120-acre farm where her family grew cotton and corn.
“I learned what a good work ethic was early on,” she said. “You have to know how to work hard if you’re going to be working on a farm.”
Honey said she attended Gravel Hill and Phil Campbell schools and later received her GED before getting married and starting the rest of her life.
Honey said she and her husband were in the cattle business for 15 years and it was something she enjoyed, especially since she could be in Franklin County.
“I’ve always liked the people in Franklin County and the weather here is nice,” she said.
“It’s just a good place to live.”
These days, Honey said she spends a lot of time at the Russellville Senior Center, and she said she has a long history with senior centers in the area.
“I was the first manager of the senior center in Littleville,” Honey said.
“I was the manager here for six years and I guess I wanted to just keep coming so I could see all the people.”
When she isn’t at the Russellville Senior Center, Honey said she enjoys spending time with her daughter and grandson and working with her 48 knock-out roses she grows at her home.
