City approves funding for airport work
The Russellville City Council approved an appropriation of up to $40,000 Monday to be used for work on the airport hangar at the Russellville Municipal Airport.
The city agreed to pay 5 percent matching funds for the airport work. Federal funding will pay for 90 percent of the project while another five percent is paid by the state.
Russellville Mayor Troy Oliver said he does not expect the city to be responsible for the full $40,000.
“I think it will come in under those costs,” he said.
Other recent airport projects have only required a 2.5 percent local match, but federal appropriations have tightened, leaving more for the city to pay.
In other business, the council:
• voted to authorize a payment of $15,655 to Atwood Fence for installation of guardrails on Underwood Road
• waived the Todd Center rental fee for Aug. 8 for an election workers’ class
• declared a vacancy for an account clerk in the administrative department
• approved new flooring at a cost of $4,600 for Fire Station No. 2
• approved a contract for $800 with RHS basketball coach Michael Smith for working with the parks and recreation basketball camp
• added the names of Harry Mattox and Charlie Nelson to the police reserve roster
• voted to authorize nuisance and abatements of structures located on South Jackson Avenue and Hamilton Street.
