Lester Lee Porter, 89, Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012, at Cypress Cove Nursing & Rehab.
Mr. Porter was an aircraft mechanic in the Army Airforce during World War II. He served in India – Burma; China def.; Air Offensive – Japan; and the Bombing of Palembang. He was retired from Ford Motor Company and an avid cattle farmer. Mr. Porter was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church.
The visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at Spry Memorial Chapel. Officiating at the service will be Bro. Jerry Hester. Burial will follow at Franklin Memory Gardens with military honors.
He is survived by his children, Toby Porter and wife, Patricia, Muscle Shoals, Wanda Montgomery and husband, Harold, Northport, Victor Porter and wife, Patti, Florence; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Arnold Porter and wife, Foree, Hartselle; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Artie Malone Porter; son, Lester Kevin Porter; step-grandchild, Seth Montgomery; parents, Alexander and Maggie Porter; brothers, Rather Porter, Leonard Porter; sisters, Isie Isom, Bracie Isom.
