Norris H. Herring, born March 10, 1935, in Phil Campbell, died Friday, October 14, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Pleasant Ridge Holy Church of Christ with Bro. Jimmy Fuller, Bro. Wallace Fuller and Bro. Charles Williams officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing.  Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery in Bankhead Forest.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dean Herring; his son, Edward Herring and wife, Helen, of Mount Hope; daughter, Glenda Slayton, of Moulton; grandson, Brooks Slayton, of Huntsville; three granddaughters, Brandy Taylor, of Decatur, Misty Stricklin and husband, Brian, of Moulton, and Jessica Herring, of Tuscaloosa; and two great-granddaughters, of Decatur; three sisters, Mae Sweeney, of Phil Campbell, Doris Burleson and husband, Bernard, of Hamilton, and Jessie Blalock, of Phil Campbell; brother, Ray Herring, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Norris was a disabled veteran having served in the 3rd Armored Division, United States Army, in Germany.

Pallbearers will be Troy Hall, Jimmy Ray Naylor, Tony Hill, Kinnard Little, Cecil Ashley and Dennis Jackson.
