William Davis, Sr., of Russellville was born on March 17, 1927, to the late William King and Carrie Alton Todd Davis. He departed this life Monday, May 30, 2011 at the age of 84 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence.
Davis served in World War II with the 201st Infantry BDE and the 71st Infantry Division. He was a decorated war veteran and had been awarded the Purple Heart Award.
The visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, at Mt. Home Church in Belgreen. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Officiating at the service will be Bro. William Mears. Burial will be in Mt. Home Cemetery in Belgreen.
Davis is preceded in death by his wife of 26 years, Regina Davis; son, William Jackson Davis; daughter-in-law, Debra Davis; parents, William King and Carrie Alton Davis; three brothers, Charles Davis, Andrew Davis and Gordie Lee Davis; and sister Elsie Gibson.
He is survived by his two sons, William I. Davis, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Russellville; Matthew Davis and his wife of Montgomery; three daughters, Shelia Diane Townsend of Russellville; Patricia Partain Cole of Russellville; Hazel Denise Adams and husband Terry of Fulton, Miss.; two step-sons, Terry Davis and his wife, Evelyn, of Birmingham; Michael Davis of Russellville; three step-daughters, Lisa Prestage of Spruce Pine; Cecelia Davis of Montgomery; Sandy Davis of Birmingham; 15 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Decker, the staff at Russellville Hospital, the doctors and staff at the JD Summers Rehab Center; and the doctors and staff at ECM Hospital for the love and care shown towards Davis.
