Students’ artwork chosen for t-shirt design

Russellville City Schools art students at both the high school and middle school levels have been showing their talent in the past several weeks, and now two art students will have their designs on T-shirts for the district nutrition program.

According to Elaine Vaughn, Child Nutrition Director for RCS, Alabama Child Nutrition Programs in Northwest Alabama decided at their yearly workshop to hold a T-shirt design contest with this year’s theme: “Eat Well, Be Well,” and the T-shirts would be worn by the CNP employees.

Designs were submitted to the Child Nutrition directors in the northwest area for a selection to be made for this year’s shirts and RHS art teacher Melissa Grissom had several students enter the contest.

After the selection, RHS art student Maricarmen Aburto’s design was selected for the T-shirts.

“The drawings were very good and the Russellville Child Nutrition Program decided to select a second place design and use it for the employees’ tote bags,” Vaughn said.

“Jose Figueroa’s design was selected for this honor.”

Vaughn said First Metro Bank of Russellville also provided each student that was chosen with a $50 savings bond.
