Virgil Franklin Moore, 94, of Russellville, Ala. died on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home.
The visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Akins Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Rachel Blankenship. The final mule and wagon ride for Mr. Moore will be provided by Joe Reynolds and Chad Williams during the last mile of the processional to Franklin Memory Gardens for burial.
Pallbearers will be Ray Brown, Jody Jones, Garland Jones, George Harper, Mack Woodard, Dr. Mickey Spillers, Doug Johnson, Buddy Walker, Bud Walker and James Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Wade McAfee family, Eddie Wells, Billy Hester, Bud Landers, Matt Moore, Shane Moore, Steven Moore, Jeff Glass, Barry Horton, Ronnie McCulloch, Colby Hammack, Gerald Hammack, Bryan Woodard, Bryan Williams, Dr. Terry Graves, Dr. Danny Hammond, Dr. Neal Clement, Dr. William Heaton, Dr. William Allen, Donald Entrekin, Harold Poole, Billy Stidham, Roland Gargis, Dallas Hollaway, Ben Phillips , Keith Terry, Johnny Malone, Lester Porter, Thomas James, Ray Fretwell, Spruell Fretwell, James Russell, Denny Wells, Bud Baker, Buice Whitehead, Gary Cline, John Coan, Billy Underwood, Johnny Hayes and the staff of Colbert Farmers Cooperative, Edward Underwood and the staff of John Deere Tractor Supply, the Smith family and the members of the North Alabama Wagon Club.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Moore; son, Lester Moore; daughter Elane Moore; and brother, Cecil Moore.
Mr. Moore is survived by daughter-in-law, Betty J. Moore; grandchildren, Susan Kelly and husband, Tyler, Frankie Moore and wife, Tonya; great-grandchildren Charlie and Tanner Kelly, Leslie and Kelly Moore.
Mr. Moore was a member of Isbell United Methodist Church, North Alabama Wagon Club and Past President of the Isbell Water System. He retired from Reynolds Metals and was the retired owner of Moore Oil Company.
A special thanks goes to Linda Hovater, Chris Heaton and family, Margie McCulloch and family, Marie Horton, Carol Glass, Chad Williams, Billy Hester, Buddy Walker, Rev. Rachel Blankenship and Garland Jones for their many visits and special time together with Mr. Moore over the last few years. Another special thank you goes to the Wade family and the staff at Terrace Manor Nursing home, the Isbell United Methodist Church and the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church.
Mr. Moore, and special friend Royce Smith that preceded Mr. Moore in death, were instrumental in starting the local wagon club ride to support St. Jude Children’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Moore wished to have memorial donations made to Saddle Up for St. Jude. Memorials for Mr. Moore may be sent to Dr. Jimmy Gardiner at 121 E. 6th Street in Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
Mr. Moore had many friends and relatives across several states. He shared his wisdom, friendship and generosity with many. He knew someone, their ancestry and extended family on almost every road he traveled. We know we have missed acknowledging some of those friends and family members in this short tribute to Mr. Moore. We apologize if we missed an acknowledgement. If you knew Mr. Moore and know Jesus, you can all take comfort in re-kindling your friendships in Heaven.
