Arthur Gilbert “A.G.” Dill, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease.

A.G. was born in Franklin County on Dec. 11, 1932 to the late Arthur Gilbert “Gib” Dill and the late Myrtle Hamilton Dill.  A.G. was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved working with his hands and working on his farm.  He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.  He was a quiet and gentle man, adored by his grandchildren and known by them simple as “G”.

A.G. retired from Alabama Limestone and spent the rest of his career working as a residential carpenter.  He was an active member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church for 43 years and attended services even when his illness had progressed. 

A.G. proudly served his country in Korea from 1953–1955.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty (King) Dill; children, Mark Dill, Danny Dill, Amanda Watkins and husband, Ray, Terri Kennichell and husband, Al; grandchildren, Jeremy Smith, Jonathan Dill, Jake Dill, Lee Smith, Andrew Smith, Daniel Dill, Jada Smith, Mandy Dill; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Garrard; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gib and Myrtle Dill; sister, Margaret Manning Smith.

The pallbearers were Jonathon Dill, Jake Dill, Jeremy Smith, Daniel Dill, Brandon Wilson, and Norman King.  Honorary pallbearers were the Adult Men Sunday School Class at Mt. Hebron Baptist.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jerome Sherrill officiating.  Interment was at Franklin Memory Gardens.
