Colbert man charged with burglary

A Colbert County man was arrested Thursday night after he was caught stealing property from a local business, authorities said.
Kevin Howard Davis, 37, 8480 Underwood Mountain Road, Tuscumbia, was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft of property, second-degree criminal trespassing and possession of burglar’s tools, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.
According to investigators, one of the sheriff’s deputies was on patrol when he noticed a truck parked near a local business with the bed of the truck close to the door.
After passing by the business, the deputy looked in his rearview mirror and noticed the truck had turned on its lights and was pulling out.
The deputy pulled the truck over and questioned the driver, Davis, about his presence at the business.
According to authorities, employees who worked at the business were called to the scene and were able to identify several items in the back of Davis’s truck as belonging to the store.
Investigators said Davis eventually admitted to entering the store.
While investigating this incident, investigators said they were also able to link Davis to a burglary that took place at a separate local business around Jan. 22.
According to the investigators, photos were taken of Davis selling scrap metal at the recycling center in Colbert County.
When the owner of that business came to the recycling center, he identified the scrap as coming from his store.
Davis has been charged with first-degree theft of property and second-degree burglary for his involvement in that case.
Davis is still in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
