Sex offender fails to register

A local man remains in custody after authorities discovered he had failed to register as a sex offender in Franklin County.

Romeo Machado, 47, 592 Franklin 80, Russellville, was arrested Monday and charged with failure to register as a sex offender, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said.

According to authorities, deputies received a call Sunday night that there were people who were possibly night hunting in the Tharptown community.

When deputies arrived, they were able to detain two male subjects but a third male subject had fled the scene.

After obtaining a name and description of the man from the other two subjects, deputies discovered the man, Machado, was wanted by the Nashville Metro Police Department for failure to register as a sex offender in their jurisdiction.

Investigators said they were able to locate Machado at his place of employment on Monday where he was arrested after officers made a positive ID.

While he was being questioned, authorities discovered Machado had failed to register as a sex offender in Franklin County as well.

Machado remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a hold for the outstanding warrant from NMPD.
