Council expected to vote on alcohol sales ordinance Monday

The Russellville City Council is expected to vote on the city’s new alcohol ordinance at Monday night’s meeting.

According to Mayor Troy Oliver, the ordinance will address issues that have concerned residents since the referendum passed in November.

Oliver said the ordinance will address the issue of whether or not alcohol can be served within close proximity to a church and the issue of bars or pubs.

“We have taken into consideration all the factors that other towns have had to consider when they adopted their ordinances,” he said.

“We have looked at alcohol ordinances from several cities and have tried to come up with an ordinance that will be the best for Russellville.”

According to Oliver, this has been a long process that he and the city council members have taken very seriously.

“Just this week I have seen e-mails going back and forth between the city clerk and council members making changes and improvements to the ordinance,” he said.

“This is something we have worked on for a long time so that we could try to make the best decisions for the city.

“I am very proud of our city clerk and our city councilmen for how they have worked together on this, and I really think this will be a good ordinance.”

The Russellville City Council will meet Monday at 6 p.m. for a work session followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.

There has been no indication yet as to when the ordinance would go into effect. The council will also address that issue moving forward.
