Albert Lewis Hughes, 88, of Phil Campbell, Ala. passed away on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at his residence.  Mr. Hughes was born February 17, 1922, and was a lifelong resident of Franklin County.

Mr. Hughes enjoyed farming as well as raising and working with cattle.  He retired from Verizon Telephone Company after 23 years of service.  He was a World War II veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Phil Campbell.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville with Bro. Tim Haney and Bro. Gregg Beasley officiating.  Burial followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Phil Campbell.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Ann Hughes; parents, Clark and Mimi Hughes; four brothers, Clarence, Roland, Less, and Garvie Hughes; and one sister, Nettie Entrekin.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Vangie Hughes; son, Phillip Hughes; one granddaughter, Kayla Hughes; one grandson, Kevin Hughes; two sisters, Bulah Hacker and Katheryn Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Billy Entrekin, Michael Fikes, Robert Hall, Daniel Morgan, Tommy Townsend, and Richard Townsend.  The honorary pallbearers were Phillip Fleming, Roger Taylor, Billy Wilson, and Ryan Fikes.
