Helping Santa program adds new drop-off point

Residents wishing to participate in the Helping Santa program sponsored by Russellville city departments will now have an additional location to drop off their information packets.

Packets can still be dropped off at the Russellville Fire Department Station 1 on South Jackson Avenue but because the firemen are often out of the office on calls or at training, residents can now leave their packets with Linda Michaels at the Russellville Police Department.

If Michaels is not available, packets can be left with the dispatcher.

According to RFD Capt. Randy Seal the information packet is used to ensure that the families who really need these gifts are the ones who are getting them.

Information packets must be filled out and returned to the RFD or the RPD by Dec. 10 in order for a family to receive gifts on the distribution days.

Families who do not fill out a packet will not receive gifts until Dec. 24, provided gifts are still available.

Some of the information that is required is proof of each child’s age, a picture ID of the parent or guardian and proof of residence.

Program organizers ask that, when supplying this information, residents provide copies of driver’s licenses and birth certificates instead of original.

The Helping Santa distribution days for the toys and clothing will be Dec. 22 for Russellville residents and Dec. 23 for county residents from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Russellville Fire Department Station 1 on South Jackson Avenue.

Program organizers said clothing, toys and monetary donations are still needed.
