PC stings Hornets 34-28

HATTON — Phil Campbell was able to shake off the effects of two tough losses in the last two weeks to beat Hatton 34-28 and earn its first region win of the season.
Hatton (1-3, 1-2) struck first with a 52-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but the Bobcats (2-2, 1-2) were able to answer when Corey Alexander connected with Craig Saint for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The point after attempt failed and Hatton took a 7-6 lead into the second quarter.
The Phil Campbell offense took control of the game in the second quarter.
Alexander gave the Bobcats the lead with a 20-yard touchdown run, but the 2-point conversion failed.
The Bobcats extended their lead when Alexander scored on an 18-yard run. The extra point was good to give Phil Campbell a 19-7 lead at halftime.
Hatton reduced the deficit to five points in the third quarter with a 2-yard run to pull within 19-14.
Alexander scored on a 1-yard run later in the quarter and found Dylan Rice on the 2-point conversion to push the Bobcat lead to 27-14.
The Hornets pulled back within a touchdown as time expired in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run, but the Bobcats answered with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Alexander to Rice.
Hatton added another score near the end of the quarter, but by then the game was decided.
Phil Campbell steps out of region play next week and travels to Phillips.
