DEKALB Services for Freeman Gill will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at E.E. McDonald Community Chapel in Meridian with the Rev. Matthew Simmon officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Toomsuba.
Mr. Gill, 74, of DeKalb, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at Kemper Homeplace Nursing Facility in DeKalb.
Survivors include his children, Linda Gill, Freeman Middlebrook, Willie Gill and Ulyesse Richardson and his wife, Gena, all of Meridian; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lester Neadham of Flint, Mich., and Clara Jean Molene of Racing, Wis.; two brothers, L.G. Gill of Racine, and Paul Gill of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife and two children.
Visitation will be Saturday from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the chapel.
CANDO, N.D. Services for Mary Ann Sherven will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Cando with the Rev. Tim Vorlage officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando. Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sherven, 96, of Cando, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Towner County Medical Center in Cando.
She was born the daughter of George and Margaret Massie Gerrard on Oct. 21, 1907, in Bisbee, N.D. She was raised and attended school near Bisbee. She married Theodore Sherven on Sept. 16, 1931, in Edgeland, N.D. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Cando area, moving into Cando in 1947. Her husband died on Sept. 24, 1983.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cando. She enjoyed baking, embroidery work and crocheting, which she began to do after she reached the age of 70.
Survivors include her sons, Donald Sherven and his wife, Judy, of Freeland, Mich., Gerald Sherven and his wife, Renate, of Cando, Dennis Sherven and his wife, Diosalinda, of Meridian, Miss.; daughters, Marlene Roles and her husband, Robert, of Williston, N.D., and Margie Porter and her husband, Gary, of Cando; and Doris Walker and her husband, Arlan, of Wapakeneta, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, LaDonna Sherven, of Midland, Mich.; 24 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Norman; an infant grandchild; her parents; five brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Retired farmer
Services for Benjamin "Jit" Brown will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at New Hope Blackwater Church with the Rev. Roosevelt Clark officiating. Berry &Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Brown, 89, of DeKalb, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include a son, Hulon Brown Sr. of Newton; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Services for Virgie Shannon will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Kewanee with the Rev. James Barney officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Shannon, 91, of Toomsuba, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at Meridian Community Living Center.
Survivors include her God-daughter, Ruby Nell Arrington of Stonewall; one granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Toole and Willie Toole.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 p.m.-5p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
