An unidentified Meridian woman was shot in the head shortly after 8 a.m. today as she sat in a parked car in front of United Blood Services on 25th Avenue.
Meridian police said the suspected shooter, James Short of Meridian, then took his own life after he returned to his 1435 44th Ave. home.
Assistant Meridian Police Chief Keith McCary said that Short drove to UBS, shot his wife in the head and then sped off.
The woman was taken to a local hospital after the shooting, where her condition was listed as critical. McCary said he didn't know if the shooting victim's injuries were life-threatening.
Capt. Jeff Lewis with the MPD said the shooting happened in the street on 25th Avenue. He said the MPD's violent crimes unit was investigating the shooting.
