Emotions won't solve problems
To the editor:
Inasmuch as Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi is the incoming Senate Majority Leader in an era of political correctness/postmodernism, it was the proper public relations thing to do. He apologized, but I personally
don't think that he offended anyone, that is, anyone that can think for themselves or has a sense of history.
Lott was merely complimenting the former leader of the Dixiecrats, a party of a state rights political entity. Dixiecrats believed the best and the most honorable solution to the longterm problems of segregation/integration could be best solved in an aura of natural political and educational evolution, under state law as our Constitution intended.
It was a sad moment then that liberal political entities of our country nationalized these problems and forced unnatural, unwelcome and impossible compliance with laws concerning the personal conduct of its citizens.
It is still a sad moment that the liberal political entities are still trying to solve problems with their emotions rather than their intellect.
Dr. Martin Luther King got his wish. Most of us have long since discontinued judging people by the color of their skins. We do judge them by their content of their character; however, we are still called racists.
Look it up. The liberals invented the word demagoguery.

The Lott episode
To the editor:
Sen. Trent Lott made a mistake. He has been good to the state of Mississippi. Others in Washington have made mistakes and have been forgiven by the Democrats.
Let's not forget that Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., was an active member of the KKK. Have you told your readers about Mr. Byrd?

Democrats shouldn't pick Republican leaders
To the editor:
So the Democrats think that the Republicans should find someone other than Trent Lott to be the GOP leader. Why do they think they can pick our party's leaders? They have no right to do so. Seeing Democrats like Jesse Jackson, (who said he used to spit in white people's food), and Al Sharpton calling someone racist is just plain laughable.
Only three or four years ago the Democrats said we should forgive Bill Clinton because he apologized for lying to us under oath. Now, when it is a Republican in the hot seat, they seem to have forgotten the virtue of forgiveness.
The Democratic Party was soundly defeated this last election cycle. They have lost creditability. Beating up on Trent Lott will not restore to them any credibility. But, being the demagogues that they are, I am sure we will have to hear them whine for some time to come.

Time for Lott to go
To the editor:
Just as I was beginning to hold my head up and show pride in my state as a Mississippian, along comes our esteemed senator and with one speech kicks the whole state back into the dark ages. Not only does he make an inflammatory speech, extolling the virtues of Strom Thurmond, but he later declares, when an apology is demanded by Al Gore, that it was a poor choice of words.
A poor choice of words? Am I missing something here? I think not. Sen. Lott's true self is beginning to leak out. The arrogant, hate-filled scowl on his face has long been an indication that his heart is not pure.
I am outraged at his behavior, but more than that, I am worried because there was no outrage none from the Republicans, none from the Democrats, none from the media. Are we so desensitized that things like this do not prick our collective conscience? Are we so busy filling our shopping carts at WalMart and driving out SUV's that things like this do not matter?
Trent Lott does not love his state. He does not love Mississippians. He simply sucks up to the rich and well-heeled, those who can benefit him and do him the most good. It is time for him to go.

The real party of hate'
To the editor:
Regarding Bill Maxwell's column: "Democrats should stand for something," in the Dec. 6 paper, I was particularly interested in the last two sentences: "If Democrats are going to win, they will need to stand for something, I told my audience. If they are going to lose anyway, why not lose for standing for something?"
With the election of California Democrat Nancy Pelosi as leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, the extremist elements in the Democratic party that insist on their view being the view of everyone are in control of the party.
The Democrats have become the Party of Hate, hatred of Israel, hatred of Jews, hatred of Christians, hatred of America, hatred of Western culture. Bedfellows of Islam, they are.
It is mystifying that black Americans who apparently dislike abortion and homosexuality slavishly follow Democrat leaders who assert abortion and homosexuality are normal.
Now, the Democratic Party will subject black Christians to its vicious hatred of Christians, whatever their race, that is part of the hate agenda of the party.
Is there no limit to what black Americans accept to remain loyal to the Party of Hate?
