County supervisors consider equipment, bridge bids

Lauderdale County supervisors could decide Monday whether to buy thousands of dollars in equipment and bridge components.
Supervisors accepted bids for the products at their Thursday meeting. The bids came from trucking and equipment companies in Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.
Twelve bids for garbage trucks ranged from $131,792 to $154,945; four bids for excavators ranged from $97,208 to $106,748; two bids for steel wheel rollers were $23,790 and $26,473; and one bid for bridge components was $36,776.
The county is expected to buy at least one piece of equipment in each category.
County engineer Neal Carson said he will look at past invoices and state contracts to ensure the bridge component bid is competitive.
Carson said the bridge components are for the Liberty Church Bridge one of 10 Lauderdale County bridges scheduled from replacement this year.
County supervisors have set aside $1.6 million in their current annual budget for the purchase of equipment.
