A Marion man remained in Lauderdale County jail today after he escaped into the woods while doing community service to work off a $70 fine with the Meridian Police Department.
Officers arrested Charles Dees Jr., 22, of 10434 Quitman-Meridian Highway, Marion, after he walked off a work detail Monday.
Assistant Police Chief Keith McCary said Dees apparently told the supervising officer that he was going to the restroom and then didn't return.
