Ray Matheny was recognized by the Mississippi Counseling Association at its convention as one of the top three school counselors in the state.
Matheny is a counselor at Harris Upper Elementary School. He serves as head of the counseling department for Meridian Public Schools.
He was nominated for the honor by the Mid-Eastern Region of the Mississippi Counseling Association.
The region includes the counties of Lauderdale, Clarke, Newton, Neshoba, Kemper, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Leake and Lowndes counties.
Dave Hicks of Meridian has been selected for membership in The National Society of High School Scholars.
The society inducts only the most outstanding high school students and honors them for superior academic achievements.
The National Society of High School Scholars has a mission to recognize and encourage academic excellence among the most exceptional high school seniors.
The society selects students nationally and awards this distinction on a very limited basis. Membership is by invitation only, extended by Claes Nobel.
