Trojans come through on the road

PHILADELPHIA Big plays at the end handed the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans a much-needed road win at Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
Now, the Trojans must go one more game without two of its starting wings who have been out of the line-up because of in-school suspension.
Two steals off a full-court trap helped the Trojans turn a one-point deficit into a three-point lead with just over a minute to play. The Trojans would go on to post the 65-59 victory over Philadelphia.
The win makes Northeast 6-7 on the season with one game left before the holiday break. That will also mark the time the team should be back to full strength.
Trojan head coach Lewis Lightsey was elated his young team stepped up on the road.
The Northeast Lady Trojans were also victorious beating the Philly girls 65-50. Shaquita Bell tossed in a game high 28 points.

After trailing 38-34 at the half, the Trojans scored the first seven points of the third quarter take a 41-38 lead. From there, the game would be tied three more times in the third quarter and three more in the fourth.
It was 45-45 late in the third quarter when Philly made 3-of-4 free throws including two by Trey Beamon to take a 48-45 lead. Northeast's Marcus Betts' drew a foul at the horn and made both free throws to make it 48-47.
It would be tied three more times in the fourth quarter with the last coming at 54-all after a three-pointer by Philly. The lead would then switch hands with Philly staying in front at 56-55 with 2:34 left on two free throws by Jonathan Davis.
The Trojans missed a three-pointer and a short baseline shot and looked to be in trouble, but Lightsey ordered the team back into a denial press. Greg Powell swiped the ball away and made the easy lay-in to put Northeast ahead.
The Trojans then caused another turnover to get the ball back. They went to the delay game and executed a 2-on-1 cut to the goal with Alex Ford dropping in the 5-footer for a 59-56 lead with 1:03 left.
Northeast went up four following a free throw by Antonio Clayton but Philly answered when Bobby Goodwin hit a three-pointer from the key with 29.7 seconds left to make it 60-59.
Betts had to call time because no one was able to break loose on the inbound.
Following the time out, Betts then made a good inbound and the Trojans broke free with Clayton going in for the uncontested score with 20 seconds left.
Philly was then hit with a charging foul on its next possession to seal the game.
Powell led Northeast with 19 points. Betts had 15 and Clayton chipped in 12 while Ford had nine.
Philly, 3-5, was led by Goodwin's 18 and Davis had 15.

The Lady Trojans were hot from the line making 15-of-17 free throws to sink Philadelphia on Tuesday night, 65-50.
Northeast improves to 5-7.
Shaquita Bell scored 12 of her 28 points in the first quarter. She finished with 11 field goals and was 6-for-6 from the line.
Crystal Hopson was 9-of-10 from the line and ended with 17 points. Quin Jackson had seven field goals and no free throws for 14 points.
Philly was led by Shekara Young with 13 points and Dominetrix Young had 10.
