Parklane sweeps two from Lamar

So far, the new South AAA division has been unkind to Lamar School. Parklane swept Lamar in the first division games for the two teams on Saturday night.
The Pioneers blew past the Raiders 72-45 in the boys game while Parklane beat Lamar 44-23 in girls action.
With the loss the Lady Raiders drop to 1-11 on the year and 0-1 in division play while the Raiders move to 5-4 on the season.
Lamar will travel to play Newton County Academy in girls' and boys' action next Saturday.

The Pioneers jumped out to a big lead in the opening minutes and never looked back as they took a 72-45 victory over Lamar.
Lance Newlon scored 30 points for Parklane while Benton Turnage added 18.
The Pioneers came out of the gate with a big 13-4 run to start the game. Parklane then went on an 11-4 run to stretch the lead to 24-7 with two minutes to play in the quarter. The Pioneers led 26-10 at the end of the first.
J.C. Boyd opened the game with a basket for Parklane and then Newlon and Turnage combined to score the rest of the points for the Pioneers in the first quarter. Matthew Fort scored all 10 points for the Raiders in the quarter.
The Raiders picked their play up a notch in the second quarter and cut the lead to 41-27 at halftime.
Lamar came out with a good start to the third quarter. David Haggard scored six points for the Raiders to cut the Pioneer lead down to nine points at 42-33. The Pioneer then turned it on. Newlon scored nine points and Steve Burch scored four as the Pioneers went on a 13-3 run to put the game away.
The Raiders trailed 57-40 after three quarters. Subs came in for both teams for most of the fourth quarter and Parklane was able finish the game by outscoring the Raiders 15-5 in the fourth to take the 72-45 win.
Fort finished with 18 points to lead Lamar while Haggard added 13 in the loss.

Parklane used a big third quarter and a big run at the end of the fourth quarter to hold off the Lady Raiders and take a 44-23 lead.
Lamar came back from a 15-point deficit to cut the lead to seven points, but the Lady Pioneers finished the game with a 17-3 run to take the win.
The first quarter was very low scoring as the teams combined to scored just nine points. Kristina Makey and Jasmine Harris hit shots to begin the game for Lamar. Hillary Branch hit a field goal, Emily Spence hit a free throw and Jenna McDaniel added two free throws for Parklane to make the score 5-4 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Carolyne Haskins had a basket and a free throw and Jamie Sclafani hit a three-pointer to give the Lady Pioneers an 11-8 lead at half. Makey and Leigh Phillips each had a basket for the Lady Raiders in the quarter.
Sclafani hit three three-pointers and a free throw to lead Parklane in the third quarter. The Lady Pioneers outscored the Lady Raiders 16-5 in the quarter to take a 27-13 lead.
Celia Covington opened the fourth quarter with a basket and Phillips had five straight points to cut the Parklane lead down to seven points.
In the end, Parklane was able to hold off the Raiders. The Lady Pioneers went on the 17-3 run to finish the game and take a 44-23 victory.
Sclafani finished with 13 points to lead Parklane while Phillips had 12 to lead Lamar.
