Exchange Club hears news from Hope Village

A key staff member at Hope Village for Children told members of the Meridian Exchange Club on Tuesday that the home for abused and neglected children is in constant need of volunteers.
Cathy Thompson, coordinator of fund development and public relations for the home for abused and neglected children, spoke at the Exchange Club's weekly meeting.
Thompson said that Hope Village, which is licensed to care for about 30 children, stays at capacity. She said volunteer support is needed for tutoring children and in other areas.
Thompson said several small events have been planned at Hope Village during the holiday season to involve the public with the home.
On Thursday, the Hope Village Staff Talent Show will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium. No admission will be charged and refreshments will be served.
Thompson said a Christmas ornament-making party was to be held Tuesday night and a Thanksgiving arts and crafts party took place Monday night.
She said all school-age children at Hope Village attend the Meridian public schools. She said some are involved in cheerleading, sports; others have jobs in the community.
Monetary donations to Hope Village also are needed, Thompson said. The home is partially funded by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, the Mississippi Department of Human Services and United Way of East Mississippi.
