Federal funding approved for area water projects

WASHINGTON Federal funding totaling more than $25 million has been approved for water and waste water upgrade projects in more than a dozen Mississippi counties, including Clarke and Wayne.
Administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture' s Office of Rural Development, the projects were included in this year's farm bill, according to a joint press release by U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Trent Lott, and U.S. Reps. Chip Pickering and Roger Wicker.
Among the projects are these in east Mississippi:
Clarke County Harmony Water Association Inc., loan of $1,139,400 and a grant of $941,500 to construct a water well and other hardware upgrades;
Wayne County Whistler Water Association Inc., loan of $204,500 and a grant of $590,000 for improvements that include a new well, water tank and water treatment plant to better serve 1,299 customers;
Wayne County Bukatunna Water Works Association Inc., loan of $53,800 and a grant of $146,200 to install PVC water lines, repaint a tank, upgrade existing control panels, and to install a sand separator.
