Vina's Wooten named Country Cottage scholar

The Country Cottage announced the 2007 recipient of the Massey-Bragwell Scholarship during a special presentation last night.
"This is the second year we have awarded the scholarship, and we are very pleased that we can do it," Betty Chesnut, managing director, said.
Vina High School Senior Jessica Wooten was honored at a dinner held at the Country Cottage. Eugene "Piney" Bragwell and Gladys Massey, whom the scholarship was named for, were also honored at the dinner.
"Mrs. Gladys and Mr. Piney are our two oldest residents here at the Cottage, and we are honored to be able name the scholarship after them," Chesnut said.
Massey spent more than 40 years in the classroom helping educate our youth, her nephew, Cecil Langcuster, said.
Wooten will attend Northwest Shoals Community College in the fall and she plans to become a Registered Nurse through their nursing program.
"I wanted to help people, and I knew that nursing could make a difference," Wooten said of her career choice.
The scholarship was limited to students who wished to pursue a career in the medical field, and the Cottage received numerous applications from all Franklin County Schools, Chesnut said.
"In addition to honoring Jessica here tonight, we will also recognize her at Vina's Senior Award's Night," Chesnut added.
Wooten was active in cheerleading, softball and basketball during her high school career. She is the daughter of Carol and Randy Wooten and the granddaughter of Jeannine and Henry Wooten, all of Vina. In addition to the Massey-Bragwell Scholarship, Wooten has also been awarded a scholarship from Northwest Shoals Community College in Cheerleading.
