Clarkdale places 8 on All-Region

Clarkdale High School had eight players named to the All-Region 5 2-A football team this month.
The Bulldogs of head coach Bubba Hathorn won the school's first-ever region/division title in football. Clarkdale finished 7-4 overall to earn its first winning season since 1981.
Hathorn, who is now 10-11 in two seasons at Clarkdale, was named the Region 5-2A Coach of the Year.
The Region's Most Valuable Player award went to Newton High quarterback/defensive back Laderrian Blaylock.
The offensive MVP award for the region went to Clarkdale running back Kevin Matthews. Matthews rushed for 1,092 yards and 11 touchdowns this season,
The best offensive linemen was earned by Clarkdale senior tackle Henry Stringfellow.
Kemper County's Anwar Jenkins was selected as the top return specialist. The region's top kicker award went to Clarkdale's David Prewitt. Prewitt kicked five field goals this season.
Overall, Clarkdale had players selected All-Region. Besides Matthews, Stringfellow and Prewitt were: defensive back Quinn Moffitte, tight end Adam Box, safety Jake Gray, quarterback Justin Culpepper and linebacker Alvin Moffitte.
Quinn Moffite was the Bulldogs' big-play force. He had an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He also returned a punt back for a touchdown against Southeast Lauderdale.
Kemper County placed four on the All-Region team. Jenkins led the way and was followed by Jarvis Cole, Shawn Woodards and Andrew Harrington.
The Newton Tigers had six selections led by Blaylock's MVP award at quarterback. Leroy Bowden followed along with Austin Bonds, Cornelius Caraway, Coshune Bingham and Justin Gibbs.
