Extension's Reed earns promotion

Just shy of 15 years of stomping though Franklin County's farmland, Extension Agent Tim Reed is moving on.
Reed was recently promoted to the state's cotton, soybean and turf insect management officer and will be based out of South Limestone County.
"I've been wanting to get back into a specialists position and do more research," he said. "This will just allow me to do that."
Reed's office will be based in Belle Mina, Alabama but he said he doubted he would spend much time there.
"I'll be traveling all over the state, seeing farmers, visiting farmland and answering farmer's questions," he said.
In his new role, Reed will be the go-to person with questions regarding insect management in some of the state's most widely produced crops, which contribute millions of dollars annually to the state's economy.
No announcement has been made as to who may fill Reed's position as Franklin County Extension Agent. However, Reed said there are several regional extension agents available to answer all local farmer's questions.
