NFPA recommends home fire sprinklers
People are probably accustomed to seeing fire sprinkler systems in places like schools, churches, hospitals and businesses, but they might not have thought about installing such a system in their own homes.
Turn Your Attention to Fire Prevention, a program of the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs, puts it simply: home fire sprinklers can save lives.
“They respond quickly and effectively to fire, often extinguishing the fire before the fire department arrives.”
Information provided by the National Fire Protection Association through TYATFP also points out that a home fire sprinkler system can reduce a homeowner’s insurance premium and states the systems are easy to maintain. Additionally:
- Fire sprinklers are environmentally-friendly, reducing the amount of water run-off and pollution, reducing fire damage by up to 71 percent and reducing water usage to squelch a home fire by as much as 91 percent.
- Cigar smoke or burnt toast will not activate a sprinkler – only an actual fire will.
- Sprinklers are effective in both bold and warm climates.
