HOSA reward RBHS class with Olive Garden luncheon

By Brandi Miller for the FCT

For one class at Red Bay High School, energetic fundraising led to the delicious taste of victory.

Pennies for Leukemia has been a project of the HOSA club at Red Bay High School for three years. Through this fundraiser, RBHS HOSA students raise money to help children with the monumental costs that accumulate from leukemia.

Chemotherapy and the many medicines children have to take are just a few of the examples of the cost families can incur, and every penny counts when a family is under these trying circumstances. This year, a contest took place among the classes at RBHS to see which class could raise the most money for Pennies for Leukemia. The prize was an Olive Garden Party delivered to the school for the class that won.
RBHS raised over $850, and the winning class was Leah Torisky’s homeroom.

“This is a very worthy cause in helping not only with treatment but also finding a cure for leukemia,” said HOSA sponsor Dr. Kay Hargett.

Hargett said one of her goals as sponsor is to teach students the importance and satisfaction that comes from giving back. The goal for next year has already been set at $1,500, and Hargett said she has full confidence the students at RBHS will rise to the challenge and help raise money for this great cause.
