4H shooting team racks up at state
At the 4-H state shoot, local shooting athletes brought some big wins home for the Franklin/Colbert program.
The senior team for 4-H, Turner Collum, Robby Ahlstrom, Ben Fennel, Trey McWilliams and Kolton Robinson, placed first in trap at the state tournament in early April. The junior team, Davis Lindsey, Jackson Mitchell, Levi Baker, Sully Hall and Walsh Nelson, also placed first in trap, against 33 other teams.
Additionally, Collum won first place individual in trap. Nelson took first place junior overall high, first place junior overall high trap score, first place junior individual trap and first place junior individual sporting clays.
“I’m so proud of the boys, especially the younger guys because three of them had never shot before in competition,” said coach Wade Willingham. “We don’t get to practice much on sporting clays and skeet, but we have trap down pat.”
Willlingham also commended assistant coach Greg Roberson for being instrumental in instructing the shooters.
“He has really put a lot of time into this,” Willingham said.
