Studio X-Treme students twirl to triumph

When it comes to twirl, students of Studio X-Treme are ready to show their stuff.

More than 70 Studio X-Treme students attended the Alabama state baton competition March 11 in Alabaster. Students represented the Russellville and Hamilton locations; Studio X-Treme groups placed top in their categories in every division.
Studio X-Treme Petites – Elizabeth Davis, Maci Boyd, Khloe Burns, Taitum Bishop and Adelyn Hester – placed 2nd in state dance twirl. In addition, Elizabeth took first place in state showtwirl and will be attending national at The University of Notre Dame in July. Maci and Adelyn placed 2nd and 3rd in showtwirl, respectively.
Studio X-Treme Tiny Tots – Chloe James, Chloe Smith, Delilah Landers, Samantha Weeks, Aleya Lane, Bryleigh Williams and Lindley Boyd – came away with 3rd in open dance twirl. Additionally, Chloe competed in showtwirl, taking 3rd place.
Studio X-Treme Juniors – Allie Scott, Abigail Mcmickin, Drew Reed and Alayna Pounders – placed 3rd in their halftime division. Studio X-Treme Juniors II – Lydia James, Bailey Bishop, Mallorie Pace, Bergie Villarino, Abby Boyd and Zadie Cooper – placed 6th in a division of more than 15 squads.
Studio X-Treme Varsity placed 3rd in their divisions, both open and state dance twirl. The varsity team is made up of Kaitlyn Reed, Cecilia McMemore, Mallory Haddock, Addy Fikes and Anna Byars.
Team members from the varsity group also competed in showtwirl, duet and strut divisions. Anna brought home 7th place in a group with more than 25 contenders; Cecilia and Mallory won 1st place in duet; and Addy, Cecilia and Mallory all placed in the top categories of showtwirl. Kaitlyn walked away with a huge first place win in a category with 16 other showtwirlers from around the state.
Twirl Tiny Tots – Ava Huffman, Paisley Blaylock, BrayLee Ledbetter, Makenna Nichols and Zoey Beaty – placed 3rd in state halftime. Zoey also competed in State Showtwirl and landed 4th place.
Twirl Divas placed 1st in both state dance twirl and open dance twirl. Members of this team are Emmy Pace, Jessica Shotts, Gracie Sanderson, Bella Timmons, Mallory Whisnant, Sara Beth Dudley, Breanna Cagle, Jilliyn Sinkbeil and Emily Sink. Additionally, Jessica landed a 1st place win in state showtwirl, qualifying to compete in nationals in July.
X-Treme Twirl Company placed 1st in open dance twirl and state dance twirl, qualifying them for nationals in July. Company members are Maddie Knoblock, Morgan Cooper, Hannah Gentz, Carlie Blaker, Arielle Meager, Macie Bishop, Kara Thrasher and  Anna Claire Frye. Morgan (5th), Carlie (3rd), Macie (6th) and Hannah (1st) also placed in showtwirl in their divisions, with Morgan, Carlie and Hannah qualifying for nationals
In awards for Best Appearing, Emma Harden (2nd), Sierra Reid (3rd), Elizabeth Davis (1st), Adelyn Hester (2nd), Maci Boyd (1st) and Faith Smith (4th) all placed.

Elizabeth Davis won 1st basic strut. Hannah Gentz won 1st in strut, 2 baton and 3 baton. Carlie Blaker won 1st in strut and 3 baton. Macie Bishop won 1st in 2 baton. Ethon Dean won men’s state solo. Cadance Dean placed in both showtwirl and best appearing.
Overall Studio X-Treme twirlers placed 1st in all showtwirl divisions ages 0-15, took away 16 top team placements and brought home more than 35 individuals awards.

“This season has been nothing short of amazing for these kids and their accomplishments,” said owner Heather Davis.
Studio X-Treme will be hosting the first-ever local baton twirling competition in May and will be taking the first team ever to the 2018 Twirltacular Hawaii, Davis added. “There are amazing things in store for this studio and its girls,” Davis said. “To see the passion and love for baton twirling grow is so exciting.”
