Local concert to feature big name performers

By Tyler Hargett / tyler.hargett@fct.wpengine.com

The sound of music is alive again in the hills of North Alabama as Russellville High School auditorium will host music by Big Daddy Weave, Plumb and We are Messengers. Following a successful show at UNA earlier this year featuring Jana Kramer and Jarred Pierce, UNA students Shelby Stephens, Haley Webster and Ben McNeal are teaming up again to put on a benefit concert for FAME Girls Ranch, a nonprofit Christian home for girls, located in Russellville.

“I have known about the ranch for a while now,” said Stephens. “My family goes to all their benefits, and we try to help them out anyway we can. Haley, Ben, and I got together, and we all decided that it would be a great idea to do a benefit for them.”

Money for concert expenses was raised by various sponsors, so all of the money made from ticket sales will be given to the ranch. Stephens said the hope is that the donation will help with “daily needs like shoes, clothing, toiletries, etc.”

Stephens spoke highly of the bands that will take the stage.

“I think people will love that these bands send a great message. Also, they are different than Christian music that is usually played. They all have their own sound but have the same message they are sharing,” she said.

The concert will take place Sunday, with meet and greet starting at 5:30 p.m., the doors opening at 6 p.m., and the show starting at 7 p.m.. General admission is $20, VIP (meet and greet) is $45, and if there is a group of 10 or more, they are $15. Tickets can be purchased at Shoals MPE in Florence, MPE Services in Russellville, First Baptist Church in Russellville, Lifeway Christian Bookstore in Florence and iTicket.com.
