HOOPS TOURNEY-JV teams compete in county tournament

The junior high division of the Franklin County Tournament began Saturday at Phil Campbell High School and continued through Monday with 12 games. The championship games will be held Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.

Championship Game schedule:

– 4 p.m. B Junior Girls Championship (Tharptown/Belgreen)

– 5:15 p.m. B Junior Boys Championship (Tharptown/Red Bay)

– 6:30 p.m. A Junior Girls Championship (Belgreen/Red Bay)

– 7:45 p.m. A Junior Boys Championship (Tharptown/Red Bay)

The following are summaries of the games from Saturday and Monday.

B Junior Girls – Phil Campbell 37, Vina 36

The Phil Campbell Bobcats trailed 30-21 going into the fourth quarter but outscored Vina 16-6 in the final period of play to take 37-36 first round win in the Franklin County Tournament.

Caitlyn Mills and Caymen Quinn score ten points each for Phil Campbell. Makayla Baker and Brittany Hagood scored six points each.  Brittney Roberson and Alexis Cothrum added two points each for Phil Campbell.

Amy Colvin and Sarah Johnson led Vina with 16 points and 13 points respectively. Greta Raper scored four points, Kayla Thompson scored two points, and Maddie Raper added one point for the Red Devils.

Phil Campbell advanced to the second round, where they would face Belgreen on Monday night.

B Junior Boys – Belgreen 41, Phil Campbell 35

The Belgreen Bulldogs took a 14-point advantage into the final quarter of play and held off a Phil Campbell rally to advance to the second round of the Franklin County Tournament.  Belgreen led Phil Campbell 33-19 in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Bulldogs 16-8 in the final period, but it was not enough to overcome Belgreen’s advantage, as they won 41-35.

Will Donohoe led Belgreen with 17 points. David Plott added 11 points, and Isac Willingham added ten points. Scout Bragwell finished with four points for the Bulldogs.

Ridge Raper led Phil Campbell with 17 points. Brett Saint scored eight points, Luke Garrison scored four points, Rilan Garrison scored three points, and Jonah Fisher finished with two points.

Belgreen advanced to the second round to play Red Bay on Monday night.

A Junior Girls – East Franklin 34, Vina 11

East Franklin jumped out to a 21-3 halftime lead over the Vina Red Devils and never looked back in route to a 34-11 win to advance to the semi-finals of the Franklin County Tournament.

Kaci Harris led the Rebels with 21 points. Anna Benford followed with six points, Addie Cummings scored five points, and Lexie Harbin finished with two points for East Franklin.

Makenzie Thomas scored all 11 points for Vina.

East Franklin advanced to play Red Bay on Monday night.

A Junior Boys – Red Bay 36, Phil Campbell 29

The Red Bay Tigers used a 12-2 second quarter to propel themselves past the Phil Campbell Bobcats in the Franklin County Tournament. The Bobcats held the scoring advantage in the other three quarters but could not overcome the second quarter hole. The Tigers won the game 36-29.

Red Bay had two players in double figures: Arden Hamilton with 15 points and Kaleb Bragwell with 11 points. Tanner Hamilton and Ethan Pierce scored four points each and Colyn Humphres finished with two points for the Tigers.

Nate Owens led Phil Campbell with 12 points. Seth Baker and Trenton McCulloch scored six points each. Eli Jackson added two points and Tyler Harris one point for the Bobcats.

Red Bay advances to the final to play Tharptown Thursday night at 7:45 p.m. at Phil Campbell.

B Junior Girls – Tharptown 34, Red Bay 22

The Tharptown Wildcats outscored the Red Bay Tigers in each of the first three quarters in route to a 34-22 win in the first round of the Franklin County Tournament. Tharptown led Red Bay 26-10 going into the final period of play.

Adrianna Borden led Tharptown with 15 points. Annslee Bottoms followed with nine points.  Aly Vandiver and Brooke Daniel scored four points each. Caitlyn Carruth finished with two points for the Wildcats.

Bailey Bolton led Red Bay with six points. She was followed by Mary Faulkner and Destiny McCollister with five points each. Kylee James, Myah Jackson and Madisyn Hester contributed two points each for the Tigers.

Tharptown will play in the finals on Thursday night at 4 p.m.

A Junior Girls – Belgreen 38, Phil Campbell 12

The Belgreen Bulldogs outscored the Phil Campbell Bobcats in each of the games four quarters in route to a 38-12 victory and a spot in the finals of the Franklin County Tournament.

Ansley Tate led Belgreen with 11 points. Tate was followed by Emma Willingham with eight points. Katie Dempsey and Gracie Dempsey score four points each. Krista Sikes added three points. Camie Terell, Kaycee Wilson, and Megan Smith contributed two points each for the Bulldogs.

Dakota Elliot led Phil Campbell with seven points. Emily Swinney and Macey Farley scored two points. Anna Gunderman added a free throw for the Bobcats.

Belgreen will play Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Phil Campbell.

B Junior Boys – Tharptown 42, East Franklin 18

The Tharptown Wildcats outscored the East Franklin Rebels in each period of play in their first round game of the Franklin County Tournament to win 42-18.

Ruben Alfaro led Tharptown with 14 points. Edward Lopez followed with 11 points. Winston Nolen scored nine points, Britton Kennamore scored three points, and Travis State added two points for the Wildcats.

Francisco Pinto and Tyler Weeks scored five points each for East Franklin. Johson Leeth added four points. Matt Dunn and Julian Jiminez scored two points each for the Rebels.

Tharptown played Vina in the second round on Monday night.

A Junior Boys – Tharptown 39, East Franklin 19

The Tharptown Wildcats used a big second half to come from behind and pull away from the East Franklin Rebels to advance to the finals of the Franklin County Tournament.

East Franklin led Tharptown 11-9 at the end of the first half. Tharptown outscored East Franklin 30-8 in the second half to secure the 39-19 victory.

Carson Petree led Tharptown with 14 points. Triston Hampton and Colton Malone added eight points each. Chris Amos scored six points, and Anthony Argueta added three points in the win.

Tharptown will play Red Bay in the final Thursday night at 7:45 p.m. at Phil Campbell.

B Junior Girls – Belgreen 31, Phil Campbell 16

Belgreen held Phil Campbell scoreless in the first quarter and cruised to 31-16 victory in the semi-finals of the Franklin County Tournament.  Belgreen led Phil Campbell 20-10 at halftime and 28-12 at the end of the third quarter.

Bailey Wood led Belgreen with ten points. Emma Dempsey followed with nine points. Autumn Bragwell added six points. Emmie Scott, Sterlyn Oliver and Bailey Oliver scored two points each.

Caitlyn Mills and Brittany Hagood scored six points each for Phil Campbell. Caymen Quinn added four points for the Bobcats.

Belgreen will play Tharptown in the finals Thursday evening at 4 p.m.

B Junior Boys – Red Bay 46, Belgreen 28

The Red Bay Tigers jumped out to a 15-2 first quarter lead over the Belgreen Bulldogs and cruised to a 46-28 win in the Franklin County Tournament on Monday.

Alex Kennedy led Red Bay with 16 points. Braden Ray followed with nine points. Cam McKinney scored six points. Jalen Vinson and Hunter Burks scored four points each. Gage Bays contributed three points. Jayden Anderson and Dawson Wright finished with two points each.

Scout Bragwell led Belgreen with 16 points. Will Donohoe added six points. Isac Willingham scored four points. David Plott finished with two points for the Bulldogs.

Red Bay will face Tharptown in the finals Thursday evening at 5:15 p.m.

A Junior Girls – Red Bay 43, East Franklin 21

After a close first half, the Red Bay Tigers went on a scoring frenzy in the second half to defeat the East Franklin Rebels 43-21. East Franklin led Red Bay 7-6 at the end of the first quarter.  Red Bay came back to take a 13-11 halftime lead. The Tigers outscored the Rebels 30-10 in the second half to secure the win.

Reagan Kuykendall led Red Bay with 23 points. Sam Williams added 12 points. Mallori Miller scored four points. Carlyn Leath and Destiny Deater scored two points each. Sydney Hardin added a free throw for the Tigers.

Anna Benford and Kaci Harris scored 11 points and ten points for East Franklin.

Red Bay will face Belgreen in the finals Thursday night at 6:30pm.

B Junior Boys – Tharptown 44, Vina 20

The Tharptown Wildcats held the Vina Red Devils scoreless in the first quarter as they cruised to 44-20 win in the semi-finals of the Franklin County Tournament.

Ruben Alfaro led Tharptown with 15 points. Winston Nolen and Edward Lopez added nine points and eight points, respectively. Orlando Hernandez and Edwin Garcia scored four points each. Hayden Moss and Britton Kennamore finished with two points each for the Wildcats. Aaron Byrd led Vina with eight points. Zach Davidson added six points. Haze Weatherford, Braden Pardue and Elijah Whitfield each scored two points for the Red Devils.

Tharptown will face Red Bay in the finals Thursday evening at 5:15 p.m
