Russellville 50, Tharptown 34 (Regular Season)

The Russellville Golden Tigers jumped out to a 13-1 first quarter lead over the Tharptown Wildcats and never looked back, getting the 50-34 win heading into the holidays.

Russellville was able to extend the lead to 31-14 by halftime. Tharptown closed the gap to 45-32 at the end of the third quarter, but Russellville held on for the win.

Kallie Allen led the Golden Tigers with 15 points. Madison Murray and Patricia Borden scored 10 points each.  Others scoring for Russellville were Caroline Jackson (4), Layne Boyd (4), Tia Smith (3) and Megan Brockway (2).

Haley Malone led Tharptown with 11 points. Others scoring for the Wildcats were Jessica Wilson (8), Kaitlyn Vandiver (8), Erica Gray (2), Klaudia Harris (2) and Ameliah Dawson (2).

Tharptown 56, Shoals Christian 40 (Phil Campbell Christmas Tournament)

The Tharptown Wildcats had to mount a comeback bid to shake off the Shoals Christian Flame to pick up their first of two wins in the Phil Campbell Christmas Tournament.

Trailing Shoals Christian 20-16 at halftime, Tharptown powered past the Flame with a 22-8 third quarter to take a 38-28 lead into the final period of play.

Wilson and Vandiver led Tharptown with 15 points and 14 points respectively. Others scoring for the Wildcats were Malone (8), Catie Dawson (5), Brooke Daily (4), Ameliah Dawson (4), Linda Bahena (3) and Harris (3).

Tharptown 55, Phil Campbell 49 (Phil Campbell Christmas Tournament)

A strong second half effort gave the Tharptown Wildcats a win over county rival Phil Campbell and also allowed them to win the Phil Campbell Christmas Tournament.

Phil Campbell led Tharptown 22-21 at the end of the first half of play. The Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 19-12 in the third quarter to take a 41-35 lead heading into the final period of play. Tharptown led by as many as ten points in the fourth quarter of play.

Harris and Vandiver led Tharptown with 13 points each. Wilson added 10 points. Others scoring for the Wildcats were Malone (7), Catie Dawson (6), Ameliah Dawson (4) and Bahena (2).

Abby Davis led all scorers with 20 points for Phil Campbell. Others scoring for the Bobcats were Darby Elliot (9), Leah Gunderman (6), Carley Nix (6), Chloe Roberson (6) and Harley Voyles (2).

Red Bay 47, Wilson 42 (Lauderdale County Invitational)

The Red Bay Tigers defeated the Wilson Warriors 47-42 in the first round of the Lauderdale County Invitational Tournament in Rogersville.

Red Bay jumped out to a 15-10 first quarter lead, but Wilson responded with a 12-7 second quarter to tie the game 22-22 at the half. The Tigers outscored the Warriors 13-7 in the third quarter and held on for to advance to the second round of one of the toughest girls basketball tournaments in the state.

Allie Kennedy led Red Bay with 20 points. Darby Madden added 17 points in the win. Others scoring for the Tigers were Hope Cook (4), Carlee Humphres (2), Brooklyn Bolton (2) and Morgan Pierce (2).

Hatton 41, Belgreen 40

The Belgreen Bulldogs lost a close one to the Hatton Hornets Monday. Belgreen led Hatton 16-12 at the end of the first half. The Hornets swarmed out of the locker room, outscoring the Bulldogs 16-6 in the third quarter to give them a 28-22 lead heading into the final period of play. Belgreen mounted a comeback but fell just short, 41-40.
