RCS receives White House invite
The Russellville High School Rocketry Team is continuing to soar to new heights – this time, to Washington, D.C.
The students, who won the International Rocketry Competition in Paris this summer, now will take a trip to the White House. They have been invited to meet President Barack Obama at the White House in two weeks.
“It’s really big for the kids,” said RCS Superintendent Heath Grimes, adding that he has been hoping for this ever since the international championship. “All along you’re hoping that’s going to happen.”
The trip will not be a school sponsored event, but students will be accompanied by mentor Tracy Burns. Raytheon and other corporate sponsors are funding the event, which was made possible in part, Grimes said, through the continued efforts of rep. Johnny Mac Morrow and Sen. Aderholt and Sen. Sessions.
