Phil Campbell student fisherman reels in scholarship

Isaac Cummings, an angler on the Phil Campbell High School fishing team, received a $500 scholarship from Freedom Marine for Big Fish, weighing 6.94 pounds, during the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association state qualifier tournaments on Lake Neely Henry.
“School-sponsored fishing is one of the hidden gems,” said parent-volunteer Eric Jackson. “There are a lot of opportunities for our kids in fishing. It’s what many kids do growing up in this area. It’s something they love. Now, it’s something they can compete in for their school and community and earn scholarships.”
Cummings was presented the scholarship during at the state tournament May 14.
The Phil Campbell fishing team competed in the two-day state tournament on Smith Lake on May 15-16.
